A few words about the name of the Lodge: Triptolemos
He was the son of Diavlos or Disavlos, which means the double groove that the ox cuts as it goes back and forth in the field. He was initiated into the Mysteries by the goddess Demeter herself and became the first priest, the founder of her cult, the founder and original king of the city of Eleusis. He was sent by the goddess to spread throughout the world her two precious gifts of agriculture and the cultivation of the earth, which has as a consequence the domestication of morals.
Demeter is the goddess with a dual aspect. She is the one who provides the fruits of the soil, especially wheat, and at the same time she symbolizes the mysterious depths of the earth that give life to plants and at the same time the world of death. In the representations of painted vases, we usually see the Triptolemos at the time of his departure for his great journey. He is seated in a chariot drawn by winged serpents, holding a scepter in one hand and an ear of corn in the other, and receiving from the goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone the precious gifts he was going to give to the world.
According to the Eleusinian Mysteries, Triptolemos was one of the judges of Hades, along with Minos (hero of Crete and son of Zeus), Radamanthus (brother of Minos) and Aeacus (son of Zeus and Aegina). In a lost play by Sophocles entitled TRIPTOLEMOS, the hero’s miraculous journeys, the dangers he faced and the resistance he encountered until he emerged victorious at the end, spreading the gifts of the goddess Demeter, returning home victorious and founding the city of Eleusis and the worship of the goddess.
