Brief background:
The ”MarathonLodge” was the cradle of ”PROMETHEOS”.
At the meeting of the Marathon Lodge on May 15, 1904, it was reported that an official delegation of Bulgarian lodges would visit the Lodge. This was strongly objected to by Brother Ritor, which caused the protest of Spyridon Nagos and other brethren of the lodge, resulting in their withdrawal and their request for a new lodge. The Prometheus Lodge.
The installation meeting ofPrometheusLodge took place on February 18, 1906, Sunday, February 18, 1906, at 9:30 p.m. The inaugural speech of Sp. Nagos’ inaugural speech marked the future course of the Lodge and set the strict oratory of its so-called “particular tradition” as a Laboratory for the study, promotion and application of the principles and doctrines of the ancient Greek classical philosophers.
The lodge worked mainly on weekends. The participation of its members in the war engagements of that period forced it to be put inactive twice. From 04/03/1919 it operated uninterrupted until 1941, when it suspended its work, as did all the lodges, due to the German Occupation.
During the Occupation there were meetings of the brothers of the Lodge. Under Ioannis Vassilis they formed the anti-Nazi organizationPhoenix, whose manifesto was the book by Brother Vassilis, “Human Rights and their Naturalistic Foundations”, published in 1942.
The Occupation had almost completely dismantled the tectonic fabric and many brethren needed training and information. The Grand Lodge then, established Masonic Schools and entrusted the brothers of Prometheus, Antonios Adrianopoulos and Ioannis Vassilis, to conduct them.
The founders of Prometheus also developed a new concept of masonic work, a characteristic element of which was direct contact with nature and physical exercise, with excursions and sea baths. This resulted in the establishment of the ‘Masonic Excursions Club‘ in 1927, which was transformed 10 years later into the ‘Archaeophilic Excursions Club‘, which still exists today.
Since the foundation of the Lodge, Charitable Work has been carried out continuously, both by individual members of the Laboratory and as a Lodge, often in collaboration with the M.S.T.E., and always under the law of silence, for our suffering fellow human beings.
