Brief background
The “Phoenix” Lodge No. 48 was created in 1910 in the East of the city. Piraeus by the sisters of St. “Miaoulis” No. 42, of the same East Piraeus. With the beginning of the Balkan wars the lodge lost most of its staff due to conscription and began to have problems in its operation. No longer able to function normally, the lodge was temporarily placed in a state of inactivity in 1912. On September 12, 1914, due to inability to operate, the Lodge was finally placed in inactive status by decision of the brethren, and its remaining members were merged into their parent lodge, “Miaoulis” .
After a period of more than 80 years 20 ad. of St. “Pistis” No. 71 of the East. Piraeus, headed by the Venerable Venerable of this Lodge, Br. John Lidakis, decided to awaken the historical St. “Phoenix” No.48.
This request of the ades was accepted by the Grand Lodge of Greece and on December 16, 1991 the establishment committee consisting of the Most Glorious Grand Master Christos Manea, the Additional Grand Master Nikolaos Donta and the Ades. Alexandros Koyas, Georgios Stavropoulos, Panagiotis Anagnostou, Panagiotis Lambropoulos, Ioannis Tsamis, Dimitrios Vassilakos and Spyridon Paizis, awakened in Tekt. Piraeus and re-established the “Phoenix” Lodge in the Aeon of All, with Br. Ioannis Lidakis as the first rector of the Lodge. Br. Lidakis remained in the office of Sev. until his election as an Endowed Member of the Grand Lodge of Greece. The next Venerable was proclaimed on October 18, 1993, Brother Anargyros Sklivaniotis.
The Lodge certainly does not have the long record of other Masonic laboratories, but it remains firmly committed to the goal of its awakening, which was the creation of a Lodge that will work consistently in the spirit of the Masonic Types, producing high spiritual work.
Her charitable and social contribution has been recognized twice by the Great Council of Greece, which honored her with the Medal of Charity. The culmination of the charitable and social contribution of the Lodge is the significant blood donation made by members of the Lodge by participating as blood donors in the blood donation program organized by the Grand Lodge of Greece for children suffering from Mediterranean Anemia, in cooperation with theAghia SophiaChildren’s Hospital.
