Brief background

The founders of the lodge, all Masons from Constantinople, had seen the Masonic Light in the Greek-speaking lodges of Constantinople “Truth – Hakikat” and “Honesty – Hulus“, the first of which is still operating today despite the dwindling Hellenism there. After their deportation or their forced flight from Istanbul due to the tense political relations between the neighbouring country and Greece, these masons settled in Athens after 1964, where despite the serious problems they had to face in trying to set up their lives from the beginning, they did not neglect their masonic work and made sure that they were adopted in lodges in Athens and especially in the “Pythagoras” lodge no. 8.

Because of the constant flow of brethren from Constantinople, they soon asked the Grand Lodge of Greece for approval to establish a lodge to gather the Constantinopolitan Masons. The then Grand Master Alexander Tzazopoulos, understanding that these sectarians had a special need to be able to meet among themselves, approved the establishment of this new lodge.

The founders of the Lodge chose for the new Lodge the name “Harmony” in memory of the Lodge “Harmony” No. 44 which operated in Constantinople between 1909-1934, under the auspices of the Grand Lodge of Greece, as many persons from their close family environment had been members of this lodge.
