He studied Philology at the University of Athens, where he received his PhD degree. He teaches in schools as a teacher. In 1933 he met Ad. Syrigos who had founded an educational organization in Piraeus that included a primary school, a secondary school and a boarding school which he named Athena and was hired as a teacher. Syrigo appreciated the morals, culture and abilities of Ziridis, who would marry his niece, and essentially made him his partner. In 1938, the school will be rocked by internal emigration and poor economic conditions, but it overcomes the crisis and continues to operate until the German invasion of 1941.
Then they decide to rent a building in Victoria Square in Athens. There they continue to operate the school with difficulties. In 1945 Syrigos left for other professional activities and Ziridis was left alone. A fortunate event was the school’s collaboration in the Music/Orchestral course with their former pupil Mickey Theodorakis, who would teach in 1946/47. The years passed smoothly and in 1957, due to the large number of students and the excellent reputation in the Athenian society, the school moved to Villa Paliou, a large neoclassical building.
The upward trend continues and Lykeion Athena is transferred to Paradisos Maroussi (1962). There, the Arenas and Girls’ Boarding School were combined and operated as a model educational organization. In 1969, a kindergarten was opened in another independent building. Ziridis’ successful and outstanding career would be suddenly interrupted by his unexpected death in 1971. ‘But his work remains to remind us of his luminous creation.
