Zalokostas Eugenios (Athens, 1855 - 1919) "Athena" Gallery

He studied at the Law School of the University of Athens and then continued his postgraduate studies in Paris. He returned and entered the diplomatic corps. He served as Secretary at the Greek Embassies in Rome, Cairo and Paris. He was posted for several years to Constantinople. He then became Ambassador in Sofia.

During the First World War, he became Minister of Foreign Affairs under the government of Spyridonos Lambrou, who succeeded Nikolaos Kalogeropoulos, also a Tecton, as Prime Minister on 27.9.1916 and ruled the country until April 1917. It was that terrible period when Greece was divided in two with the government of Eleftherios Venizelos’ National Defence in Thessaloniki.

In addition to his diplomatic career, however, he was involved in literature. He wrote poetry and translated foreign poets. He also translated the works of Victor Hugo. He collaborated with literary magazines such as Ilismos, Attiko Imerologio, Parnassos, Poikili Stoa, Imerologio Skokos etc: Farewell, My Father’s Shadow, The Coda of Resurrection, Midnight Rembas, Faith – Hope – Love, The Mandel of Love. etc.
