Felipe Oracio Vazquez Lahara, (Moca, 22/10/1860 - Moca, 25/3/1936)

Felipe Horacio Vásquez Lajara (1860-1936) was an important political figure in the Dominican Republic, serving as President of the country in various periods (1899, 1902-1903, 1924-1928).

Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, he joined the army at a young age, where he was distinguished for his leadership and patriotism. He participated in the Civil War of 1899 and gained a strong political base thanks to his collaboration with Juan Isidro Jimenes.

As President (1924-1928), Vásquez led the country through a period of relative stability following the American military occupation. His work focused on economic reforms, improving infrastructure and strengthening institutional functioning. However, his prolonged rule and attempted revision of the Constitution caused discontent, leading to his overthrow by Rafael Trujillo in 1930.

Vásquez was reportedly a member of the Freemasonry Brotherhood, although information about his activity in Freemasonry is limited. He also held military offices before and during his political career.

His life was associated with building a more stable and modern Dominican Republic, although his legacy was marred by the rise of the authoritarian regime of Trujillo.
