Ο Harry S. Truman (Harry S. Truman, 1884-1972) was born on May 8, 1884 in La Mona, Missouri. He served as the 33rd President of the United States from 1945 to 1953, following the death of Franklin Roosevelt. Truman’s presidency coincided with critical moments in world history, including the end of World War II and the beginning of the Cold War. His actions, such as the dropping of the atomic bombs in Japan, which brought the war to an end, remain controversial but decisive on the world political scene.
Before becoming President, Truman served in Congress and as Vice President of the United States. His administration was also instrumental in the implementation of the Marshall Plan and the policy of containment of communism that shaped the politics of the post-war era.
Harry Truman was a Freemason. He was initiated into the Lodge Belton Lodge No. 450 Missouri in 1909 and rose to the highest office of Master Mason in 1911. He later rose to higher ranks, reaching 32nd degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Press (AASR) in Eastern Missouri.
Truman was also a member of the Shriners, who were known for their charitable work.
He was proud of his involvement in Freemasonry and often referred to his experience of Freemasonry as a source of moral guidance throughout his life. He was the first president of the United States to serve in that position while an active Freemason.
His Masonic career reflected his commitment to the principles of brotherhood, charity and integrity. He maintained close relationships with many prominent Freemasons during his political career and attributed much of his moral foundation to the teachings of Freemasonry.
Despite his busy presidency and throughout his life, Truman remained a loyal and active member of Freemasonry until his death on December 26, 1972 in Missouri.
