(Corfu 1878 – 1922)

 

Politician and diplomat, son of the great family of Theotokis, son of the Prime Minister George Theotokis. He studied law in Athens, Paris and Berlin. After returning from his studies he entered the diplomatic field and was appointed to various embassies and consulates. In 1917 he became our ambassador to Germany. Under the Venizelos administration, he followed the exiled King Constantine to Switzerland as a Germanophile. He returned in 1920 and was elected a member of parliament with the People’s Party. On 21 January 1921 he took over the Ministry of Justice in the government of N. Kalogeropoulos. He then served as Minister of Military and Navy successively in the governments of Protopapadakis , Gounaris and again Protopapadakis May 1922. Unfortunately, Theotokis was involved in the adventure of the Asia Minor disaster and unjustly paid with his life for the mistakes of a whole generation. The infamous “Trial of the Six” is well known, which ended in their being shot at Goudi on 22nd November 1922.
