He was born in Athens and was the son of a soldier. He studied electrical and mechanical engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and was a visiting researcher at the Illinois Institute of Technology, USA. He held a doctorate from the Universities of Brussels and Paris. In 1973 he became a full member of the Academy of Athens and in 1982 its president.

In 1974 he became Rector of NTUA. In the 1974 Government of National Unity he served as Deputy Minister of National Education and Religious Affairs from 9 October to 22 November 1974. He died at the age of 78 and was buried at the First Cemetery in 1999.
