He was born in 1860 in Lixouri of Kefalonia and after his studies there he attended the Royal Commercial School in Ancona, Italy, where he was awarded a diploma. When he returned to Greece he engaged in commerce, gaining the esteem of the commercial world for his industry, knowledge, straightforwardness and dignity. Thanks to these qualities, as a man and as a citizen, he occupied a much sought-after position in society, which honoured him by making him President of the Piraeus Merchant Association, Councillor of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Councillor of the Hellenic University Merchant’s Association, President of the Piraeus Ithakians and Cephalonians and Councillor of various other organisations.
But he was also honoured by foreigners, as the medals awarded to him, including the Knight of the Romanian Crown and the diploma of membership of the Bologna Academy of Philosophy, testify. The masonic life of Spyr. Aravantinou’s life in St. John’s began with his initiation into the St. George’s Church. “Pythagoras” on 2 March 1890, climbed all the symbolic and philosophical ranks, served as Venerable Member of the “Pythagoras” Lodge and served as a regular member of the Supreme Council. He served as Grand Master from 02.08.1898 to 1899. In 1926 he founded in Piraeus, together with other brothers, the “Pistis” Lodge, of which he retained the office of Venerable Monsignor until his transfer to the Eternal East on 13 September 1930.
His main characteristic was modesty in the exercise of his duties and humility in his private life.
