He was studying law at the University of Athens when he volunteered for the 1st Battalion of Chania. In 1911 he entered the NCO School. He took part in the Balkan Wars of 1912-13. He fought in Epirus (Bizani, Pente Pigadia, Ioannina surrender). He fought for the liberation of Northern Epirus with the independent Cretan Regiment.

He participated with Venizelos in the Defence movement in Thessaloniki in 1916. He fought in World War I and participated in the Asia Minor campaign. He was chief of staff of the General Staff of the General Staff. Head of the Division and Head of the NCO School. Retrained at the Higher War College in France. He was demobilized due to his participation in the Gargalides-Leonardopoulos movement of 1935. He was recalled in 1941 and sent to Crete with the rank of Lieutenant General. He became a senior military commander of the island and participated in the Battle of Crete. He fled to Egypt and was appointed Deputy Chief of the Army(7/1941 – 5/1942). He was then retired. He received many medals and distinctions.
