He studied Architectural Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. There he was initiated into Freemasonry (Kilwinning Lodge). He returned to Smyrna and became involved in the building business. He was an elected member of Smyrna society, participating in National Societies.
He worked in the service of national interests and was at ease as an English citizen. He became an associate of Metropolitan Chrysostom. He helped much in the rehabilitation of the refugees of the Asia Minor disaster, in particular by supporting the claims for compensation from the various European Insurance Companies, for which reason he made many trips abroad.
