Sarros Dimitrios (Zagoria, 1869 - Athens, 1937)

He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens. In 1897 he was appointed professor of the Greek School of Piraeus. He then taught in Larnaca, Cyprus, as Headmaster of the Pancyprian Gymnasium. He returned to Macedonia and served as a Gymnasier (also in Thrace) from 1902 to 1909.

He joined the Macedonian comitatus and became an active member of the Macedonian struggle. In 1910 he was imprisoned by the Turks. At the same time he published his literary works. He developed nationalist activity, as in 1912 he organized the first congress of the teachers of the unredeemed Hellenism and took part in the Great National Assembly of the enslaved Hellenism.

Associate and friend of Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Smyrna. He taught at the Great School of the Genus School and at the St. Joachim’s School of Constantinople (1909-1923). During his stay in Constantinople he was a member of the ‘Istanbul Philological Society’. After the Asia Minor catastrophe he was forced to return to Greece. In 1926 he became an educational adviser to the Ministry of Education. His literary work was large and varied, summarized in Literary, Historical, Folklore and Translation (of ancient tragedies).
