Ο Theodore Roosevelt (Theodore Roosevelt, 1858-1919) was the 26th President of the United States (1901-1909) and one of the most dynamic figures in American history. He was born in New York and rose to prominence through his political and military career. He served as Governor of New York and Vice President under William McKinley. After McKinley’s assassination in 1901, Roosevelt assumed the presidency, becoming the youngest President in U.S. history up to that time, at the age of 42.
Roosevelt promoted policies of social reform and environmental protection. He established national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, and was a strong supporter of the “Deal Square”, which aimed to protect consumers and fight monopolies. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for his mediation in ending the Russo-Japanese War.
Theodore Roosevelt was a Freemason. He was initiated into Freemasonry in 1901, at Matinecock Lodge No. 806, Oyster Bay, New York. He attained the rank of Companion on March 27, 1901 and was elevated to the highest rank of Master Mason on April 29, 1901.
Roosevelt remained an active member of Matinecock Lodge throughout his life, participating in various tectonic activities and visiting lodges both in the United States and internationally during his travels.
Although he did not hold high office in Freemasonry, he supported the values of the Brotherhood, such as charity and morality.
Roosevelt died on 19 January 1919 of a pulmonary embolism, leaving a legacy of his strong leadership and progressive politics.
