Antony Proust, (De Sevres, 15/3/1832 - Paris, 20/3/1905)

Ο Anthony Proust (Antonin Proust, 1832-1905), was a French lawyer, politician and journalist who was distinguished for his cultural and political contribution to France in the 19th century. Born on 17 March 1832 in De Chèvre in south-western France, he studied law and gained a reputation as a lawyer with an interest in social and cultural issues.

Proust served as Minister of Fine Arts from 1881 to 1882 in the government of León Gambetta. During this tenure, he promoted the cultural development of the country and defended the freedom of artistic creation. His role was instrumental in preserving and promoting France’s cultural heritage.

As for his connection with Freemasonry, Proust was a member of a Masonic lodge in France, under the auspices of the Grand Orient de France, one of the most important Masonic jurisdictions in the country.

Proust died on 20 March 1905 in Paris, leaving behind a remarkable political and cultural legacy that continues to be recognised.
