He studied Law and Political Science at the University of Athens. Having a special vocation in painting, like his father Socrates Prokopiou, a painter of the Asia Minor campaign, he entered the School of Fine Arts and after graduation he studied at the Sorbonne and in 1939 was awarded a Doctorate. He then became Professor of Art History at the A.S.C.T.

He studied psychoanalysis, philosophy from Marx and Freud. He taught for many years and was gifted with eloquence and fluency, this made him particularly charming and beloved. For political reasons and for his democratic convictions he lost his seat to the Metaxas dictatorship and then to the German occupation. He fought in 1940 on the Albanian front.

He published the newspaper“Free Life” He was imprisoned for his resistance activities. After the war he became a politician with N. Plastiras and Kazantzakis. In 1958/59 he became the program director of the Radio. He was President of the Association of Art Critics. He returned and regained his seat in 1959. A particularly fertile and creative spirit. He left a large body of writings of studies, art criticism, monographs mainly on art and culture.

He wrote articles in newspapers and magazines. In 1962 he published the art magazine“New Forms“. Among other things, he wrote a play entitled, ”The Pharaoh Akhenaten”. His book Athens History of Culture is also excellent, we also selectively mention : Neo-Hellenic Art, The 21 and Folk Painting, Holland, Aesthetics and Art in America.
