He studied at the School of Naval Cadets and graduated as a midshipman cadet (1918). He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and later in 1933 to Commander. In 1937 he was promoted to Commander. He took part in naval patrols during the Asia Minor Campaign. He was promoted to Commander in 1937. He served successfully and many diving hours as a submarine captain.
During the Second World War he served as captain of the anti-torpedo ship Hydra. He took part in convoys and patrols. On 22 April 1941 north of Aegina he was attacked by stuka planes, was wounded on the bridge of his ship, did not abandon it and was captured. He was honorably promoted posthumously to captain and his surname was given in honor to a warship.
