Papavasiliou Hippocrates (Paros, 1868 - Athens, 1951)

He graduated from the Military School of Evelpidon, Lieutenant. He took part in the Greek-Turkish war of 1897 with the rank of Lieutenant as a staff officer at the headquarters of Thessaly. He was retrained for four years at the Berlin War Academy. He took part in the Balkan Wars of 1912-13, and from 1914 to 1917 he was chief of staff of the 1st Army Corps (World War I).

Because of his royal beliefs he was taken out of the army during the period 1917-20, and was deported to Aegina and Santorini. Recalled in November 1920, he was promoted to Colonel and served as a military attaché at the Greek Embassy in Rome and Bern. He was discharged in 1922 with the rank of Lieutenant General.

He was appointed Deputy Minister of the Navy 1936-1941. He was awarded Greek and foreign medals of valour. After the Second World War, he became a politician in the Cyclades with the combination of the independent party ‘Kotzias – Maniadakis – Turkovassilis’.

He wrote mainly on military subjects, published the book “On the Army”, as well as monographs, studies and, contributor to encyclopedias.
