He studied Mathematics and Astronomy at the Universities of Munich and Paris. He returned to Greece and was elected professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Athens. Later he became professor of Geometry at the H.M. Polytechnic University in 1855-58. He also taught in military schools. He was a co-founder of the Athens Observatory. He also co-founded the Archaeological Society. He was a member of the Cretan Struggle Committee (1866-68) during the Cretan Revolution. He was also a founding member of the Masonic Directorate and a member of the Council of the Great East.
