He studied at the Rizarios School and the Theological School of the University of Athens. He also trained at the University of Leipzig. He was appointed professor of pedagogy at the Arsakeion and then director of the teaching school of Thessaloniki. He was secretary general of the Ministry of Education in 1926-28.
He was appointed Minister of Education in the government of I. Metaxas (1936). He also served as Minister of Education in the occupation government of I. Rallis, 1943-44. In 1945 he was convicted as a seditionist but was released from prison three years later and pardoned in 1951. Later, in 1959, he was elected Academician. He wrote many philosophical, pedagogical and theological works, such as: the History of Philosophy 1933, Introduction to Pauline Studies 1960, Athos the Gate of Heaven 1962. Symposium of Saints 1964 etc.
