Poet of the interwar generation, lyricist and symbolist. In 1888 he enrolled in law school but abandoned it for poetry. He taught in a private high school. His family’s financial comfort gave him the opportunity for uninterrupted study of poetry and literature. He was a member of the Athenian Club.

Contributor to the magazines Ebedmas, Art, Panathenaea, Nouma etc. He also published poems and prose in newspapers. From 1909 to 1915 he remained in Paris and his acquaintance with Jean Moreas influenced his style. In 1917 he was appointed Dean and Director of the Library of the Chamber of Deputies. His work was appreciated and translated into many languages. A master of verse, demotic and full of feeling. He published ten collections of poetry.

In 1924 he was awarded the National Award of Letters and in 1932 he was elected president of the Society of Greek Writers. His complete works (all of them) were collected in two volumes of poems and one volume of prose (2005-6). During the Greek-Italian War he co-signed with other Greek intellectuals an appeal to the intellectuals of the world to condemn the fascist and malicious invasion of the Italians.
