He was born in Mani and came from the historic family of Mavromichalis. He was the nephew of Kyriakoulis Mavromichalis, who was also Prime Minister.
He studied law at the University of Athens. He followed the judicial branch and in 1923 he became President of the Court of First Instance, in 1940 Appellant and in 1949 President of the Court of Appeal. In the same year he became an Areopagite. In 1959 he was promoted to Vice President of the Supreme Court and in 1963 he became President. He also served as caretaker Prime Minister in 1963. He wrote many legal works and studies.
