Marthas Takis (Lavrion, 1905 - Athens, 1965)

He studied at the Department of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens and served as a curator at the Chair of Figurative Projective Geometry from 1930 to 1960. The following year he became a Full Professor in the Chair of Liberal Design. He taught at the Army Officers’ Schools and the Evelides School. But in addition to his university career he was an excellent painter and engraver. He participated in many Panhellenic exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions in 1955 and 1958. He also participated in many exhibitions abroad, USA 1953, Stockholm 1957, London 1960, Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp 1964. In 1959 he was awarded a diploma of honor at the Paris Art Salon , Sao Paulo Brazil , Paris , Sao Paulo Brazil .

Marthas is considered one of the pioneering painters of Greek abstraction, Fauvism, Symbolism and Cubism. He experimented with the materials used in the construction of a painting influenced by the possibilities of modern technology. He was also influenced by the American painter Jackson Pollack. He combined architecture with painting and construction (Constructivism). Sadly, Martha passed away very young and in the prime of his artistic career.
