He studied law at the University of Athens. In 1923 he became a lawyer before the Supreme Court. He then became Professor Emeritus of the University and then Full Professor of Private International Law at the Athens Law School.
In 1924 he became General Manager. In 1924 he was appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Justice. In 1940 he was elected a full member of the Academy of Athens, of which he became President in 1951-52.
He was a member of the drafting committee of the Greek Civil Code. Honorary doctorate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Paris in 1954 and of the University of Thessaloniki in 1974. Chairman of the drafting committee of the Private Maritime Law. Member of the International Court of Arbitration at The Hague (1940), member of the European Court of Human Rights – Strasbourg 1959. Corresponding member of the French Academy. He participated in international conferences and was held in high esteem. In 1957 he was elected Rector of the Hellenic Academy of Sciences.
He became Minister of Justice in 1952 as Minister of Justice in a caretaker government. He wrote many studies on the Civil Code, International Private Law. etc. Finally he was honoured with a special publication called Eranion ( volumes A-D).
He was a member of the “Themis” Lodge of Athens, a symbolic lodge whose members were only lawyers.
