He basically started to survive on his own, in those difficult times, in Thessaloniki, after finishing primary school, studying at the French Commercial School and working in the evenings. He then worked as an insurance agent and shortly afterwards opened his own office in a central part of the city (Emporio Square), where the economic heart of Thessaloniki was beating. He deals with the trade of cars and their spare parts.
But Manos is a restless spirit and is actively involved in the Macedonian struggle, as an official Doctor of the Second Order. He works with the Consul L. Koromila , the artists Ion Dragoumis, Athanasios Souliotis Nicolaides etc. In 1929 – 1930 he became Mayor of Thessaloniki, and was again elected Mayor in 1934 – 1937. With the coming of the 4th of August Manos was dismissed as Mayor.
