Lord Carnavon, (London, 24/6/1831 - London, 29/6/1890)

Ο Lord Carnarvon (Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon, 1831-1890) was a prominent figure on the British political scene in the 19th century. Born on 24 June 1831, he was educated at Eton and Christ Church College, Oxford. He became a member of the Conservative Party and held important roles in public administration.

He served as Colonial Secretary twice, in 1866-1867 and 1874-1878. During his first term, he played a key role in shaping Canada’s Constitution, participating in the Confederation of 1867. During his second term, he was involved in South African affairs, including the annexation of Ceylon. However, his policies on Southern Africa were criticized and caused controversy.

Lord Carnavon was a Freemason and a member of the aristocracy, having access to many of the Masonic circles of his day. His contributions to the governance and colonial affairs of the British Empire place him among the important political figures of the 19th century.

Lord Carnavon died on 29 June 1890, leaving behind a legacy of political and colonial administration that had a profound impact on British and international history.
