Architect
F:. Pythagoras
(Athens 1896 – 1952)
He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He continued his studies in Paris and graduated from the School of Architecture (1920). The gifted young architect of the interwar period had the good fortune to meet great personalities of the time, such as Raymond Duncan, Dim. Mitropoulos, Angelos Sikelianos and to collaborate with the latter on the Delphic Festivals where he built the sets in 1930. He also designed and built replicas of ancient musical instruments. Professionally, he was associated with other young architects (N. Mitsakis, Dim. Pikionis, Ang. Siagas, N. Tzelepis, etc.) who promoted a more modern style. Buildings should be functional, simple, solid and bright. The German Bauhaus style is present in Kontoleon’s constructions. The houses he had built are of great architectural value, the State School of Orchestral Art, K. Pratsika’s house, the house on Lampsakou Street & Vass. Sophia, etc. Apart from his architectural creations, Kontoleon designed and shaped the hill of Lycabettus and Filopappou. He was president of the Architects’ Association and organized the 1st architectural exhibition. He left a series of charcoal paintings.
