Konstantinos Perakis (1880-1963)

He was born in Athens in 1880. In 1900 he graduated with honours from the Medical School of the University of Athens and received postgraduate training in France and Germany. In 1902 he was appointed as an assistant and then as a curator at the Evangelismos Hospital. From 1915 to 1925 he was director of the Pathology Department of the Christomanos Clinic. Subsequently, during the period 1925-1940 he was co-owner of the Peraki-Zaousis Clinic and from 1940 to 1960 he was Director of the Pathology Clinic of the General State Hospital and Chairman of the Hospital’s Board of Directors.

He saw the tectonic light in 1905 in the “Rigas Feraios” Lodge. From 1908 he participated in the “Ypsilantis” Lodge, where he is referred to as the second assistant of this lodge. In 1917, together with several members of the then “Ypsilantis” Lodge, he was adopted by the St. “Skenderbeis”. From 1947 to 1959 he served as Grand Master and was a member of the Supreme Council.

During the occupation he was persecuted by the Nazi authorities and tried to maintain at least a rudimentary form of the connection between the Tectonics. After the liberation he fought for the reconstruction of Freemasonry in Greece with the help of the Masonic President of the USA, Admiral Harry Truman. During the fratricidal war he tried to address the problems of our area by focusing on the creation of new lodges, charitable work and the establishment of relations with foreign Masons.

He was transferred to the Eternal East in 1963.
