Professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Athens since 1922. In addition to his scientific studies, he contributed significantly to the organization of hospital care and the establishment of the People’s Hospital. He collaborated in the establishment of the Medical School of Thessaloniki. Because of his participation in the governments of the German occupation, as Minister of Education and National Welfare and from 1941-1943 as Prime Minister, he was sentenced to death in absentia (1944) and imprisoned from 1946 until his release in 1951, after being pardoned.
