F:. Astir of Zakynthos
(Zakynthos 1780 – 1858)
He studied medicine in Italy and then returned to Zakynthos where he served as a medical officer under British occupation. A fervent patriot, he was initiated into the Society of Friends and was associated in close friendship with Theod. He was a close friend of the Greek philosopher Theodore Kolokotronis. He offered significant services in the organization of the struggle of 21, sending volunteers and ammunition to the Peloponnese. Associate of Dionysios Roma and A. Stefanos. Because of his capacity as a health curator, he was a cohesive link between the Ionian Islands, carrying plans and revolutionary messages. He communicated with the Greeks of the diaspora and Philhellenes about the course of the struggle. The English consul in Patras, Philippe Green, was informed of his activities and denounced him. However, Dragonas managed to refute the accusations and was acquitted. In 1825, with Ibrahim’s landing in Moria, Dragonas, together with other patriots, formed a committee in Zakynthos aimed at increasing British influence in Greece and deciding to intervene. In 1827 he went to the Peloponnese and took part in the Third National Assembly of Troizina and helped to normalize the relationship between the Greeks and the British Commission. In 1835 he was awarded the Silver Aristate and in 1842 the Cross of the Saviour.
