Member of the Grand Lodge

(Kalamos 1826 – Athens 1898)

 

The only son of the hero of the revolution Georgios Karaiskakis. He studied at the Greek Lyceum and at the Military School of Munich (1833-38) with the royal sponsorship of Otto. He attended without finishing the Evelpidon School. He enlisted as an ensign in 1848. He took part in the Greek-Turkish skirmishes of 1854. He was promoted to lieutenant in the infantry and then in 1859 he became a captain. As a messenger of Otto he followed him into exile. In 1881 he became a colonel. In 1884 he became fortress commander of Corfu and in 1886 he was chief of the army of Epirus as lieutenant general. He retired in 1896 with the rank of lieutenant general. He also served as deputy of Valtos 1885, Evritania 1875, Karditsa 1882, vice-president of the Parliament 1867-68, as Minister of Military Affairs in the governments of Char. In 1875-1882, he served as Minister of Defence in Greece in the government of H.H. Trikoupis, at various times from 1875 to 1882. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Greece.
