Henry Frederick, (London, 27/10/1745 - London, 18/9/1790)

Ο Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathern (Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn, 1745-1790), was the son of George II of Great Britain and brother of King George III. He was born at Leedshaw Castle and was known for his military career and political ambitions. He served as a general in the British army and took part in the Capture of Florida and the American Revolution. However, his relationship with the royal family was quite strained due to his opposition to his brother, King George III, and his political choices.

The Duke of Cumberland was also a Freemason and took on various roles within the Masonic Brotherhood.

He was initiated into Freemasonry in 1767 at an occasional Lodge convened at the Palace of Q, where he passed through the rank of Companion. Soon after, he was elevated to the highest office of Master Mason in the same Lodge.

In 1782, he became Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England. He served in this position until his death in 1790. In addition, from 1774 to 1790, the Duke of Cumberland was Grand Patron of Royal Arch Freemasonry.

His involvement in Freemasonry was noteworthy, as he supported its development in Britain and was central to reinforcing the Freemasonry values of his time. His leadership positions were significant and he played a central role in the development and organisation of the Brotherhood during his tenure.

The Duke of Cumberland remained a controversial figure in British history, mainly because of his personal relations with the family and his strategic actions.

He died on 18 September 1790 in London.
