Gustavus VI Adolf, (Stockholm, 11/11/1882 - Helsingborg, 15/9/1973)

Ο Gustavus VI Adolphus (Gustaf VI Adolf, 1882-1973) was King of Sweden from 1950 to 1973. Born at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, he was the eldest son of King Gustavus V and Queen Victoria. At his birth, he received the title of Duke of Skåne.

In 1905, he married Margarita of Conot, with whom he had five children. After her death in 1920, he married Louisa Mountbatten in 1923.

As heir to the throne from 1907, Gustavus VI Adolphus came to the throne in 1950, at the age of 67, after the death of his father. During his reign, he adopted the personal motto “Plikten framför allt” (“Duty before all”) and supported constitutional reforms that led to significant changes in the Swedish political structure.

In addition to his royal duties, Gustavus VI Adolphus was known for his interest in archaeology and art. He participated in archaeological excavations and helped to promote the arts in Sweden.

Gustavus VI Adolphus was indeed a Freemason. He held the position of Grand Master of the Swedish Masonic Brotherhood, a role traditionally associated with Swedish monarchs.

The Swedish Standard used includes a number of degrees organized in different levels of galleries. As Grand Master he had full knowledge of the operation of the Swedish Standard and its system of degrees.

As Grand Master, Gustavus VI was active in the Masonic Brotherhood during his reign.

He died in 1973 in Helsingborg, shortly before he reached the age of 91.
