Gustavus V, (Stockholm, 16/6/1858 - Stockholm, 29/10/1950)

Ο Gustavus V’ (Gustaf V, 1858-1950) was King of Sweden from 1907 to 1950. He was the eldest son of Oscar II and Sophia of Nassau. In 1881, he married Victoria of Baden, with whom he had three sons.

During his reign, Gustavus V faced significant political changes, including the transition to a more parliamentary democracy. Despite his initial objections, he accepted reforms that limited the powers of the monarchy. In World War II, he maintained a neutral stance, although there were rumours of Axis sympathies, which were not confirmed.

Gustavus V was known for his love of tennis, using the nickname “Mr. G” in international matches. He was also a patron of the arts and science, supporting cultural and educational initiatives.

In his connection with Freemasonry, he held the position of Grand Master of the Swedish Masonic Brotherhood, ensuring the proper administration of the rituals and lodges under his jurisdiction.

King Gustavus V was a prominent figure in Swedish Freemasonry, playing an important role in the Masonic Brotherhood during his reign.

He died in 1950 in Stockholm, after serving as King for 43 consecutive years.
