He studied Philology at the University of Athens (1928-32) and later became a doctor of the Athens School of Philosophy (1966). A lover of historical research and study, he dealt with the archival material of the Library of Dimitsana, but also with the study of other archives of the Peloponnese (Arcadia, Ilia, Gortynia, etc.). He began to publish relevant works of study in 1939, ”The Library of Dimitsana”. In 1940 he was appointed curator of antiquities in Gortynia and then curator of the Historical Archive of Gortynia. He participated as a reserve second lieutenant in the 40s epic.
At the end of the wars (1949) we find him sorting the great archive of Yannis Vlachogiannis in the G.A.K. At the same time he publishes various folklore studies in relation to his hometown Dimitsana period (1940-1954). In 1958 he is appointed to the Secondary Education teaching in various high schools of the Peloponnese and Piraeus and in the Marasleio Pedagogical Academy. In 1967 Gritsopoulos reached the rank of Gen. He was appointed General Inspector and Supervisor of Secondary Education. In 1968 he forced his resignation to the military junta and retired. However, he continued his intellectual activities by writing books and participating in scientific societies.
He participated initially as a member of the Society of Peloponnesian Studies and then as its life president with significant publishing work and international activity. The “Peloponnesian Chronicles” have been published in 26 volumes and the various Proceedings of Scientific Conferences of the Society , covering 35 volumes! In addition to these, the library of the Peloponnesian Society has published another 15 volumes of historical, folklore and literary material. He was also a member of the “Society of Historical Studies” and president of the“Union of Scientific Societies of Greece“, actively participating in the publication of the respective journals Mnemosyne and Scientific Hive.
His overall work is extremely large and important, which is why the Greek State through the President of the Republic Mr Stephanopoulos honoured him with the Order of the Order of the Phoenix, the Oik. Patriarch Bartholomew with the ornament of the “Archbishop of the Great Hieromonk of the Church” and the Archbishop of Athens honored him with the “Golden Cross of Apostle Paul”.
