Ο George Canning (George Canning, 1770-1827) was an important figure in British politics and served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1827, for a brief period due to his untimely death. He was born in London and educated at Eton College and Oxford University. He developed liberal ideas and entered politics under the tutelage of William Pitt the Younger.

Canning served as Secretary of State, a position in which he promoted liberal policies and supported the independence efforts of countries such as Greece and Latin America. He supported the idea of national self-determination and opposed the authoritarian powers of the Holy Alliance. His term as prime minister began in 1827, but was cut short by his death in the same year.

Canning was adopted into the lodge Prince of Wales No. 259, coming from the Lodge Somerset House on 13 April 1810. However, according to A.W. Oxford, Canning was initiated into the rank of Disciple and passed through the rank of Companion in Arcade No. 4 on April 30, 1810, having been nominated on February 12, 1810. In any case, Canning was a Freemason associated with a very distinguished lodge.

His legacy includes a liberal approach to foreign policy and the promotion of the independence of peoples, which decisively influenced the international developments of his time.
