Ο Jonas Ferrer (Jonas Furrer, 1805-1861), served as President of Switzerland in 1852. He was a politician and intellectual with an important presence on the Swiss political scene in the 19th century. During his tenure, Switzerland was in a period of political and social turmoil, and Furrer sought to strengthen the country’s cohesion and development through structural reforms.
The Führer was also a Freemason. His membership was part of the wider Brotherhood of politicians and intellectuals of his time, who saw Philanthropy and the ideas of Freemasonry as a means of promoting democracy and social progress. Freemasons had a strong presence in 19th century Switzerland, and Ferrer’s membership in this circle reflected his liberal and progressive ideas.
His participation in Freemasonry helped develop his political career with the support of the Masonic Brothers. The Brotherhood was closely associated with the ideas of the Enlightenment, which Ferrer embraced and relied on for the political modernization of Switzerland.
He died on 25 July 1861 in Bad Ragaz.
