Ο Edward, Duke of Kent (Edward Duke of Kent, 1767-1820), was the son of King George III and Queen Charlotte. He was born at Kent Castle and served in the British army, taking part in military expeditions in Europe. Although his political career was not particularly distinguished, the Duke of Kent had a significant influence on the family and court of the United Kingdom of his time, particularly through his relationship with his son, King Edward VII.

Edward of Kent was also a Freemason and an active member of the Brotherhood. He was initiated in Geneva in 1789 and in 1790 became a member of the United Grand Lodge of England. During his lifetime, he held various Masonic offices. In 1813 he assumed the office of Grand Master of the Antient Grand Lodge of England, one of the two governing bodies of Freemasonry in England at that time.

His involvement in Freemasonry was significant and he played a central role in the unification of the two Grand Lodges, leading to the creation of the United Grand Lodge of England.

His contribution to Freemasonry and his participation in important tectonic activities were of great importance to the spread of Freemasonry in England at that time. The Duke of Kent contributed significantly to the strengthening of the institution and had great respect for Masonic principles and values.

He died on 23 January 1820 of pneumonia.
