He studied at the Evelpidon School and became an engineering officer. In 1894 he became a professor of Geodesy. He was a staff member, with the rank of Captain, of the Crown Prince Constantine in 1897. He was then recruited to the newly formed Corps of Gen. In 1904 he was appointed to the new General Staff in 1904. He took charge of the organization of the National Defence Fund, thanks to which it was possible to start fortifications in Thessaly and Epirus and renewed the equipment of the army.
He took part as Chief of Staff in the Balkan Wars campaign of 1912-13 together with King Constantine II.He signed with the King, as his adjutant, the treaty of unconditional surrender of Thessaloniki by Taksin Pasha. He was Chief of the General Staff. He was Chief of the General Staff of the Army. He taught at the Evelpidon School.
In 1917-19 he was exiled to Corsica by the Venizelists. He was sentenced to death by a special court martial (without his sentence being carried out). He was reinstated in 1920 and demobilized in 1923. He was an intelligent and highly qualified military man. He was awarded the Order of the Saviour and many medals for bravery, both Greek and foreign. He wrote many military works and historical books on the Balkan and Asia Minor engagements as well as his military memoirs .
