Ο John D’Alambert (Jean le Rond D’Alembert, 1717-1783) was a French philosopher, mathematician and physicist, known for his contribution to the Enlightenment. Born in France, he developed a distinguished career in mathematics and philosophy and was a close associate of the leading French mathematician and physicist Jean-Le-Rond D’Alembert.

In addition to his scientific achievements, D’Alambert was an important figure in the world of Freemasonry and the Enlightenment, actively participating in the debates and influences of the time. He was a member of a Parisian lodge and was an ardent supporter of the principles of liberty and fraternity of men, which were core values of the Brotherhood. His membership in the Fraternity greatly influenced his philosophy and scientific approach.

D’Alambert’s legacy is significant, as he helped to spread the ideas of the Enlightenment in Europe, while his works in mathematics and physics were highly influential in the scientific developments of the time.

D’Alambert’s intellectual work was certainly influenced by Enlightenment ideas, which were closely linked to the Masonic principles of liberty, equality and fraternity.

He died on 29 October 1783 in Paris.
