He studied sociology at the University of Graz and had as his teacher the famous Polish Gublowicz. In 1899 he took up journalism and became the director of the newspaper ‘New Day’ in Trieste.
During the Balkan wars, Chalcocondyli contributed with his pen to the struggles. He carried the newspaper from Italy to Greece (Athens). From this position and thanks to his exceptional erudition and cultivation he gained general acceptance and appreciation. He maintained the newspaper for 16 years . Then (1931) he published another newspaper,“Proti“, of short duration and reissued“Nean Imeran” as a weekly. In the last years of his life he retired from active work.
