Educator – Writer

(Myriofyto, Thrace 1858 – Athens 1928)
He spent his early years in Constantinople where he studied at the Great School of Genius. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and did postgraduate studies in philosophy and pedagogy at the University of Gauthis and received his Ph.D. from the University of Jena in 1892.
He returned to Greece and taught Pedagogy at the Arsakeio and Teaching School of the Athens Arenas and the Athens Conservatory. Then he was appointed Director of the Piraeus Girls’ Teaching School. In 1910 he participated in the foundation of the Educational Group.
From his youth he began writing as a contributor to the magazine ”The Children’s Diavlasis” and later became its editor-in-chief. He published many books of children’s literature. He also published studies, plays and short stories. He was a journalist for newspapers and magazines of the time.

Kourtidis was distinguished for his great social contribution to the teaching and education of young people, particularly cultured and philanthropic.
