He studied at the Priestly School of Arta and then at the Theological School of Athens. As a monk he was named Cherubim on Mount Athos. Then deacon. He was also a preacher in the Metropolis of Demetrias. In 1934 he was ordained a Presbyteros. He worked as an employee of the Holy Synod. In 1935 he was elected Metropolitan of Paronaxia. At that time the Holy Synod included the island of Thera (Santorini) in the same Metropolis , thus creating the Metropolis of Paronaxia and Thera, where he served until 1945. Then he was transferred to Trikala, in the Metropolis of Trikki and Stagi. He offered great social work and help to the faithful of the Church and his Metropolises during the difficult times of the occupation and the civil war.
