The so-called Babis Anninos was a brilliant writer of his time, particularly popular for his humour. After his high school studies in Kefalonia , he became a clerk in the customs office and then a consular clerk in Italy. He was then appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Education , Clerk of the Court of Auditors and Secretary of the Athens Public Prosecutor’s Office. But his great love was journalism, He worked in many newspapers as a journalist, and as editor-in-chief at Kathimerini. At the same time he wrote in magazines, (Parnassus, Asmodeos, Iris etc.) under various pseudonyms. “Herodes Atticus”, “Rakosyletaktis”, “Strepsiadis” etc.

In 1885 he founded the satirical newspaper Asty. He was one of the founding members of the Society of Theatrical Studies. His pen was sometimes satirical and critical, sometimes serious depending on the chronicles of the time. He published collections of poetry and was praised in the 1871 Buccaneer Competition. He made translations from Italian and French books. Philemonas and N. Politis in the writing of the history of the 1st Olympic Games of 1896. He also wrote plays in a completely original style. His play “A Servant Wanted” was selected for the premiere of the Royal Theatre in 1901. His satirical revue ‘The Panathenaics’ was a huge success. He was awarded the Order of the Saviour (1889), the Golden Award of Letters and Arts (1914) and the Athens Academy Prize (1925) for his great contribution to the field of letters.
