He entered Freemasonry on 6 February 1859 and was a founding member of thePanhellenicLodge in 1863. He was one of the oldest Greek Freemasons. In 1867 he was Secretary of the Constitutional Assembly for the drafting of the General Regulations and the Constitution of the newly established Grand Orient of Greece. His house, near the gate of the marketplace where this Assembly was held, is also considered to be the first Masonic house.

On 31 May 1899 he was appointed Grand Master and on his own initiative the St. “Athena“, from which the St. “Thespis”, “Eleftheria”, “Dodoni”, “Skendermbeis”, “Hesiod”, “Hellas” and “Phoenix” were founded. In 1900 it was adopted by St. “Skenderbais” was adopted in 1900 and pioneered the normalisation of relations and reconciliation of the Masonic forces in Greece.
