Romas Alexandros (Athens, 1863 - Athens, 10/7/1914)

Son of the great family of the De Roma patricians from Sicily who in the 16th century arrived in Crete and then in Zakynthos. He studied law in Athens and political science in Paris.

From a young age he had been involved in politics and was an enthusiastic patriot. He was taken prisoner by the Great Powers for participating in the liberation struggle of Crete while on a state mission in Crete. He was later released. He participated with the ranks of the Garibaldines in the unfortunate Greek-Turkish war of 1897. In the battle of Domokos he distinguished himself and was awarded the rank of Major.

His political activity was also great. From 1895 he was elected as a deputy of Zakynthos continuously and until 1914, he was elected seven times. During the government of Al. In 1896, under the government of Al-Ali Zayim (1896), he became deputy speaker of the Parliament and the following year he was elected President of the Parliament. In 1902 he became Minister of Education, in 1905 again President of the Parliament and in 1909 Minister of Justice.

He took part in the Balkan Wars of 1912-13, as leader of the Red Army Corps. He participated in the battles of Siatista, Grevena, Bizani and Driskos, where he was wounded. He was honorary named Colonel on the battlefield. He then took part in the North-Epirotic struggle. He died on 10 July 1914, from his wounds in the battles for the liberation of Epirus.

He was awarded the following medals: Grand Ribbon of Osmanier, Spanish Grand Cross, Brigadier General of the Legion of Honour and Brigadier General of the Saviour
