He studied Philosophy at the University of Athens and taught in Ermoupolis, Syros and in Taigaronk, Russia at the Greek School. He studied in the libraries and museums of Moscow and Petroupolis, mainly Byzantine art and archaeology. Then (1900) he studied on a state scholarship at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris. He was elected professor of Byzantine history and archaeology at the University of Athens (1912). He was a Consultant of the Archaeological Society. He was the first curator of the antiquities of Christian and Medieval Hellenism. He was alsoDirector of the Byzantine Museum(1914-1923).

He carried out excavations, research and conservation in Meteora, Dafni, Mystras, Sparta etc. He collaborated with Professor Sp. He collaborated with Professor Sp. Lamprou for the recording and compilation of a catalogue of the manuscripts of the monasteries of Mount Athos. He made many studies and scientific publications in scientific journals and encyclopedias. We mention indicative writings: Byzantine Monuments of Epirus, Chronicles of Morea, Tinian Tales, Byzantine Thessaloniki, Agneia’s Experiment of the Virgin, Alexandrian Culture, etc.
